Ingredients for a Taco Charcuterie Board
There are so many option for what ingredients to use to build your taco night board. If you already have a favorite list of taco night ingredients, simply use this to assemble your own board. Otherwise you can selects from an assortment of fresh vegetables, cheese, meat, and beans. Since part of the beauty of any charcuterie board is the visual appeal, make sure you choose colorful ingredients like peppers, cabbage, onions, tomatoes and lettuce.
Here are some suggested ingredients:
- Ground meat or cut up chicken: Add some taco flavoring to your meat or flavor it with cumin. For this board we used ground chicken and shrimp both flavored separately.
- Taco shells and tortillas: Taco shells are fun, but I find them tricky to eat. Our family loves soft shelled tacos and tortillas of different sizes to make our burritos. You can also skip the burritos and tacos and add rice to make taco bowls! We love to make our own tortillas if we have time! Also consider adding a bowl of chips.
- Sauces: scoop some guacamole, salsa, and sour cream into bowls. You can make your own guacamole and salsa or buy these pre-made
- Vegetables: Vegetables are really what make this board pop. Add an assortment of veggies such as cut up tomatoes, onion, cabbage, peppers, lettuce, avocado
- Beans: We’re big fans of beans for our taco nights – choose black beans or refried beans and serve up in their own bowls
- Extras: add some decorations and extras to make the perfect board – limes, cilantro, and hot peppers all make excellent additions to a taco charcuterie board.
Tips for Making a Taco Charcuterie Board
While there are many ways to create an amazing charcuterie board, here are some tips to keep in mind to make a fun, delicious and beautiful taco charcuterie board.
Choose the right board
You will need a relatively large charcuterie board to make your taco board. Remember you are assembling an entire meal, not just an appetizer. Compared to other charcuterie board, there are more bowls that normal and some of the ingredients are larger such as the taco shells and tortillas. If you don’t have a big board, you can always lay butcher paper out of the table and serve your taco night directly from the table.
Add the spice as an option: When we made this taco charcuterie board for a family dinner, we kept the spice at a minimum. It’s easy to provide a bowls of cut up hot peppers or a spicy salsa for anyone wants to spice up their meal. We also seasoned the shrimp to be spicy but kept the chicken more mild to please everyone.
Get it out hot: Serving the taco night charcuterie board hot is probably the most challenging part of this meal. We laid the ingredients out and set bowls on the board for the hot items. Once the board was assembled, we quickly heated the meat, bean and tortillas and served immediately. This is a hard board to make in advance, so plan to make and serve all at once. Since it takes a lot of last minute preparations, you will want to plan ahead if you are making this for a dinner party.
