Jump to Recipe

When you think ‘charcuterie board’ your first thought might be a small platter of meats and cheeses served as an appetizer. Over the years, the charcuterie board has grown to include everything from dessert platters to fruit boards and even complete meal boards. This soup and bread charcuterie board is a fun way to serve an entire meal and the perfect solution for your next dinner party. Get all your food out on one big platter, ladle up some soup, slice your bread, and you have a complete meal charcuterie board.

I created this soup and bread charcuterie board for an October meal with my parents. I chose to make my own butternut squash soup, but you can truly make or serve any soup you prefer. I love the bright orange of the butternut soup and chose to serve the soup with plenty of fresh bread, and other fall-colored foods like carrots, apples, meats, and soup toppings. Add some decorative touches and you will have an amazing, healthy, and fun meal.

What is a Soup and Bread Charcuterie Board?

So what makes this amazing meal a charcuterie board? Since we are keeping the definition of charcuterie board very general – we think any collection of food displayed all at once deserves the name charcuterie board. This means that this delicious, and healthy, board of food with cheese, bread, and soup makes an amazing meal board.

Instead of just serving each item on its own, lay the entire meal out on a big board for a truly amazing display. This not only looks beautiful and is fun, but it encourages folks to linger and graze as they eat. We especially love serving a bread and soup board for family dinners as our kids tend to linger and snack on the veggies and fruit while eating their soup.

You can see a complete shopping list if you want to make this exact board below, but it is also easy to adjust this to any soup or snacks. You can see suggestions for different ingredients below.

One of the best things about this dinner board is that it is incredibly easy to assemble and requires just a few ingredients. You can easily add additional items or substitute different ingredients. The main elements of this soup and bread board are bowls of soup, a selection of bread and cheese, some seasonal fruits and veggies, and an assortment of soup toppings such as herbs, crackers, and nuts.

For the soup, we made our own butternut squash soup based on the recipe at Gimme Some Oven. We also love butternut squash soup with curry and coconut milk butternut squash soup, and you can always buy pre-made soup and simply heat it up on the stove.

You can also select a variety of bread and cheese or if you’re feeling ambitious, bake your own bread. Any cheese will work, and I selected cheese that could be pre-sliced and easy to pick up off the board. Here is the shopping list of everything I gathered to assemble this awesome dinner board.

How to Create a Soup and Bread Charcuterie Board?

Once you have your ingredients gathered, you can begin to prepare you,r charcuterie board. Once you’ve made your soup, the rest of the board is relatively easy and quick to assemble. The most challenging part is getting the food out quickly so that the soup is still hot when you serve your board. You can also assemble the board and pour the soup as part of the meal itself.

Step 1: Make the soup and if you are baking your own bread – bake the bread.

Step 2: Prep the other food items: Toast the almond slices in the toaster for a few minutes, combine a tablespoon of butter and honey together and place in a dish, cut up the apples, bread, and cheese

Step 3: Select a large charcuterie board, or combine several smaller boards together in the center of your table. Place the largest items on the board to serve as the anchor for your board. The biggest items will likely be your soup bowls, bowls of crackers, almonds, honey butter, and butter.

Step 4: Serve up the hot soup and fill in the rest of your charcuterie board with the rest of your ingredients, laying out the bread and cheese in large rows. Try to cover your entire board and use seasonal decorations (like gourds), flowers, and herbs.

Invite your friends and family and gather around for an amazing, delicious dinner! Encourage everyone to add some of the ingredients to their soup bowl and eat directly from the charcuterie board, or you can provide small plates for people to eat off.
