Fresh Ingredients for this Melon Ball Charcuterie Board for Summer

This charcuterie board is all about the fresh, bold colors, refreshing taste and fun shapes of the ingredients.

I will share exactly the ingredients used to make this board, but if you are looking for alternatives, consider other round and colorful ingredients. You could include cherries, pomegranate seeds, other berries or nuts. See some of our favorite charcuterie board ingredients.

Here is what I included on this charcuterie board:

Grapes: Both green and purple grapes are perfect for this board, you can often purchase both colors together for the perfect amount of grapes. Pick over your grapes and remove any soft or wrinkled grapes. I prefer keeping the grapes on the stems, but you can also remove them for this board.

Melon: I used 3 types of melon for this board: watermelon, canteloupe, and honeydew. Melon is such a fresh summer ingredient! Use a melon baller to make balls for this charcuterie board. This makes it easy to skewer and fun to eat and keeps everything bite sized!

Blackberries: Choose a berry for this board to add a contracting color and taste. Blackberries are a great addition, but you can also use raspberries of strawberries.

Mozzarella: Choose fresh mozzarella balls for this board. These balance well with the melon and are perfect for putting on a toothpick or small skewer.

Cheddar Cheese: add one or two interesting shapes to this board besides balls! I cut up a few pieces of cheddar cheese into long triangles to make this charcuterie board.

Proscuitto: This adds a perfect amount of salty and savory to this sweet board. You can choose your favorite prosuitto, or explore other charcuterie board meats to substitute.

Basil Leaves: The basil leaves on this melon ball charcuterie board help to ground the board and add to the asthetics. You can also substitute mint with is a great balance with the melon or use edible flowers.

Balsamic and Honey Dipping Sauce: The entire melon ball charcuterie board centers around the dipping sauce on this board. Keep it simple my mixing balsamic, honey, a little oil, and pepper.

How to Assemble this Melon Ball Charcuterie Board

Once you have your ingredients gathered, this board is relatively straighforward to assemble.

Choose a charcuterie board or platter with a raised edge on the side. This board is full of small round objects that like to roll around so if you are serving on a completely flat board your food will end up all over the place. I used a large white plate with raised edges to make this board.

Start by balling all your melon and making your dipping sauce.

Place yuor dipping sauce in the center of the platter and put each ingredient on the platter in a group around the sauce. Try to split up different colors to add interest to the board.

Using one ball of melon, stick in a bunch of toothpicks or small skewers to make the food easy to eat.

Finally add basil or mint leaves to the board to tie everything together.

This entire board took me less than 15 minutes to assemble.

Serving this Charcuterie Board

I made this board for a neighborhood after dinner gathering. It was a perfect light and summery board and since we were serving it after dinner it was a healthy dessert charcuterie board.

This board should be served within a few hours of assembling and served cool, especially if it is a hot day.

If you are serving the board before dinner, add to the summer freshness and consider serving it with light summer drinks like rose, white wine, a mojito or seltzer.
