If you are new to making butter boards, you can start with this article: How to Make a Butter Board.
Start by making sure your butter board is soft. Optional – whip your butter.
Spread your butter on the board with the back of a spoon. Start at the base of the tree and build it up. You can also spread the butter, but I like having some texture to this board.
Drizzle honey over the butter. Spread herbs.
Sprinkle walnuts and pomegranate seeds on top.
Decorate with lavender or rosemary sprigs. Cut a slice of cheese into a star for the top of the tree.
Toast or warm your bread and serve your butter board at room temperature.
Tips for Serving a Butter Board
- Soften the Butter: Make sure your butter is at room temperature for easy spreading and to create a smooth or textured tree design. Whipping it beforehand can add extra fluffiness.
- Start from the Bottom: When shaping your tree, build from the base upward to ensure a balanced and proportionate design.
- Mix Sweet and Savory: Balance flavors with a drizzle of honey for sweetness and savory elements like herbs and walnuts for contrast.
- Use Fresh Ingredients: Opt for fresh rosemary, pomegranate seeds, and high-quality butter to enhance the board’s visual appeal and taste.
- Get Creative with Garnishes: Add personal touches like edible flowers, a cheese star, or even a sprinkle of festive-colored salt for extra holiday magic.
