How to Create a Medium Charcuterie Board for Fall

Do you have a big event coming up this fall and want to create an epic medium charcuterie board?

This medium charcuterie board is full of delicious fall ingredients that are easy to find in your grocery store. Since this board is on the bigger size, I chose less expensive or average priced ingredients. You could easily add on more cheese and meat to make this board more impressive and also more expensive.

I created this board for a big fall barn party we have at our house every year. When guests arrived, the board was located front and center and everyone could grab something to eat. Since fall is my favorite season of the year, I love to celebrate the cooler weather and all the earthy and warm tones of the season.

Choosing the Right Medium-Sized Board

The first step to creating a medium sized charcuterie board is to find the perfect board. We used an old game board that we already have on hand as the base of this medium charcuterie board. We layered this with a small/medium board to make assembly easy.

You can also use multiple smaller boards stacked together or simple lay down paper on a table and build your board directly on this.

If you are looking to purchase a medium charcuterie board, you can find lots of options online (like this one) or searching at your local homegoods store.

Ingredients for this Medium Charcuterie Board for Fall

This board is full of delcious and easy to find ingredients, but there are endless ways to alter or substitute. You can see our favorite charcuterie board ingredients on our ingredients page.

Crackers: choose a combination of classic crackers and seasonal crackers. For a medium charcuterie board you will want 2-4 types of crackers.

Cheese: Choose 2-3 different cheese for this board. We used cheddar and brie. I prefer to use a combination of hard and soft cheese on a medium charcuterie board.

Nuts: nuts are a great addition to a fall board. You can serve nuts raw or with some flavoring. We chose a mixed nut for this board.

Salami: Salami is a hearty addition to the board and you can also use these slices to create decorative elements like a charcuterie rose.

Proscuitto: Proscuitto is a charcuterie board staple and adds another deocrative element to the board.

Fruit: while apples are a great addition to a fall board, they tend to brown, so only use apples if you will be serving and eating immediately. Other fruit for a fall board include grapes, kiwi, and berries.

Cucumbers: Cucumbers add a different texture and taste to this board and are fun to use in rows between the other ingredients.

Chocolate: One of my favorite things to add on a medium charcuterie board is something sweet. Even just a few pieces of chocolate add to the board and can round out the flavors.

Pretzels: Pretzels add a salty element to this board.

Other Ingredients: dried fruit, bread, pickles, honey or other dips, and garnishes.

How to Assemble your Medium Fall Charcuterie Board

We were serving this board alongside a lot of other food and really didn’t have enough time to make the assembly complicated.

To make this board, we grouped most of the ingredients in the center of the board. Place your cheeese, meat, fruit and cucumbers in the center of the board and build up some of the more decorative ingredients.

Build the rest of the board by piling crackers, pretzels and bread around the outside of the board. This assembly makes it much easier to build this board.

Onc eyour board is assembled, serve immediately or within an hour.
