3 Beautiful Charcuterie Rose Skewer Ideas for Any Board

Rose skewers are a fun way to serve up ingredients on a charcuterie board and they can be used in many different charcuterie designs. In this article, I’m sharing 3 different ways to make beautiful charcuterie rose skewer that can be served alone or added to a larger board. These are pretty and are perfect for wedding boards, bridal shower charcuterie, mother’s day boards or anytime you are trying to turn a basic charcuterie board into something fancy.

Building a Rose Skewer

All of the charcuterie board skewer ideas start with the same idea: meat shaped into a flower or rose with something on either side. There are many ingredients that do well with cured meats but for these skewers I stuck with basil, fruit and cheese.

To make the salami rose – take 2-3 pieces of salami and lay them in a row and fold them in half.

Next roll up the row from one end into a rose shape and put the skewer or toothpick through.

You can also use prosciutto instead of the salami to make a meat rose. In a similar fashion, fold the meat in half and roll it up loosely into a rose shape. It’s easy to roll the meat too tightly and then your flower looks more like a roll.

Once you have your meat flower in the center of your toothpick or skewer you can add ingrients to the outside. You can truly use any ingredients you prefer but choose something that pairs well with the meat in your rose. Below are 3 of my favorite charcuterie rose skewer ideas.

This is a classic charcuterie skewer with a center of salami, basil and two mozzarella balls on either side. The ingredients pair well and this make a pretter design for spring or summer.

This is another classic flavor combination – salami tomatoes and basil. It’s almost a caprese on a stick but with a little salami instead of cheese. This is a colorful skewer as well that makes a great addition to a board.

Tips for Making the Perfect Charcuterie Rose Skewer

Once you get the hang of shaping your meat roses, the possibilities are endless. Here are a few tips to help yours turn out beautifully every time:

Don’t roll too tightly. This is the most common mistake! A loosely rolled flower looks more like a bloom, while a tightly rolled one ends up looking like a pinwheel. Give it a little breathing room and let the edges fan out naturally.

Use fresh, quality ingredients. Since skewers are small and each ingredient is front and center, freshness really shows. Fresh basil, quality mozzarella, and good cured meats will make a big difference in both appearance and flavor.

Keep your skewers balanced. Try to mirror the ingredients on either side of the rose so the skewer looks intentional and symmetrical. Two mozzarella balls, two pieces of fruit, or two basil leaves on each side creates a clean, polished look.

Make them ahead of time. Rose skewers can be assembled a few hours in advance and stored in the fridge covered with plastic wrap. This makes them perfect for entertaining when you want to get ahead on prep.

Serve them standing up. If you’re adding skewers to a larger board, try standing them upright in a small cup or tucking them into a block of cheese so the roses are visible and on display.
